Shouko Tanimoto (谷本晶子, Tanimoto Shouko?) is a second-year education student at Kasaba University.
She has an English class with Seigi Nakata. After graduation, she becomes a middle school science teacher.
Appearance[]
Shouko is a very beautiful young woman that stands at average height.
She has wavy, chin length black hair with bangs that're cut just above the eyebrows and dark blue eyes.
She is often seen wearing casual, but feminine clothes.
Personality[]
Shouko is introduced as a kind, bubbly, and slightly air-headed individual.
On the other hand, she can also be serious, especially when it comes to providing information about all sorts of minerals or gemstones. A comical trait to this is how she can talk about them for hours on end without realizing how foot deep into detail she can be.
Although she wasn't aware of Seigi's crush on her at first, she has no interest in romance.

Story[]
Tanimoto is introduced as Seigi's love interest of sorts, a girl in his English class who he thinks is unfailingly beautiful. They met when Seigi helped her with a creepy old man outside of school, but their friendship really started after Seigi began working with Richard Ranasinghe de Vulpian and started learning about gemstones. Tanimoto, always eager to discuss gemstones, helped explain gemstone heating to him, and they began to exchange philosophies on minerals, gems, and the value of them. She often helps explain various things to him alongside Richard.
Tanimoto is a endless well of support for Seigi, and convinces Seigi that his feelings for Richard need not be romantic for him to be upset that Richard abandoned him at the end of Volume 3, and helps him solve a mystery ring that Saul had given him as a test. This encourages Seigi to chase after Richard to talk.
She meets Richard for the first time in Volume 6, Case 3, when Seigi brings her to Jewelry Étranger to show her the place. Seigi has gotten ingredients to make cream soda especially for her, and Richard shows her an assortment of her favorite gemstones, Paraiba Tourmaline. She then tells a story about her middle school friends, which resolves in her explaining her stance on romantic relationships. Richard affirms her choices, and Seigi ends the day crying out of emotional catharsis.
In Act Two, she remains in Japan while Seigi travels the world, teaching middle school science. When they meet in Volume 9 to chat, Seigi brings her a gift of various sand from the locations around the world he's visited, which she specifically requested.

She is Seigi's college friend and crush. They maintain a deep friendship throughout the series despite the occasional distance.
In Volume 9, she has a discussion with him about his approach to romance, clearly able to distinguish that despite her undeniable statement of no interest in any romance, that he has been holding himself single for many years just in case she might change her mind. This is less out of a lack of romantic feelings on his part by that stage, and more out of a sense of responsibility for the fact that he talked her out of marriage with Takashi Homura. They are able to reconcile and Seigi is able to emotionally move on from the guilt after their talk.

- Her first name, Shouko (晶子), means “crystallite”.
- In high school, she was a member and founder of the geology club.
- Her nickname "Golgo" is a reference to the old manga Golgo 13, where the protagonist is a skilled sniper.
- According to Nanako Tsujimura on Twitter, Tanimoto has a very high alcohol tolerance.
- Tanimoto has a large collection of stones. She often sends photos to Seigi of her samples.
